Dog flu and kennel cough has been very rampant in West Michigan this year. This is some general information to help maybe diagnose symptoms and recommended treatments. Always consult your veterinarian first.
Symptoms of Dog Flu
Coughing (both moist and dry)
Sneezing.
Nasal discharge.
Purulent nasal discharge.
Runny eyes.
Fever.
Lethargy.
Difficulty breathing.
Recommended Treatment:
Good nutrition and supplements to raise immunity
A warm, quiet and comfortable spot to rest
Medications to treat secondary bacterial infections
Intravenous fluids to maintain hydration
Workup and treatment for pneumonia
Symptoms of Kennel Cough:
a strong cough, often with a “honking” sound – this is the most obvious symptom.
runny nose.
sneezing.
lethargy.
loss of appetite.
low fever.
Recommended Treatment:
Typically, mild cases of kennel cough are treated with a week or two of rest, but a veterinarian may prescribe antibiotics to prevent a secondary infection and cough medication to ease the symptoms.
